Empty Promises...Empty Stomachs: Impact of the Agreement on Agriculture and Trade Liberalisation on Food Security
Following two decades of the application of neoliberal policies by many governments, the promises and commitments made to satisfy the food and nutritional needs of all are far from being fulfilled. Worse still, it is evident that the existing world trading system or World Trade Organisation (WTO) is far from being either fair or just. In reality, liberalisation policies are part of a planned programme of exclusion that is commodifying resources and knowledge and destroying the poor, their food security, livelihoods and support systems. This resource handbook highlights case studies in seven countries conducted by grassroots groups and NGOs on the real impact of WTO’s Agreement on Agriculture on food security and rural women.
